Ben Gurion Airport to Undergo Major Overhaul in 2019

According to a special report in Ynet, Ben Gurion Airport is set to undergo a major overhaul in 2019 that will see it become a more user friendly airport. The reason for the change, according to the report, is that Ben Gurion is expecting to see 25 million travelers pass through its halls in 2019, thus qualifying it in the “Large Airport” category.

The changes will include six new baggage and security check booths in terminal three, a doubling of the capacity and use of Terminal one for short distance flights, even international ones, common check-in stations where passengers can check in to different airlines at the same station and added self-check-in booths. The goal of all these changes is to cut down on long waiting lines in the departures section of the terminal.

The carpets in the areas leading from the terminal waiting area to the docking bays are all going to be changed and the bathrooms throughout the airport are slated to be refurbished. Additionally, the V.I.P. Lounges are also expected to be redone in an effort to raise the comfort level of the passengers.

Following the new “Open Skies” policy in Israel, 10 new airline carriers will be establishing flight routes to and from Israel in December. Among these airlines are: Latam, Air Moldova, Air India, and Sichuan Airlines.

It is expected that in 2018 a total of 23 million travelers will have walked through Ben Gurion’s halls, and that number is only expected to increase next year.
